Since the middle of the 19th century, Europe's exchanges between the increasingly strengthened, new social development needs  of  foreign language learners' oral English ability put forward higher requirements. In the late 19th century, the Europe set off a upsurge of reform in language teaching. Direct Method, also known as Natural Method, it is given the birth on the basis of this new understanding in foreign language teaching.

In the 1920s, under the advocacy of the British linguists Palmer, Hornby and others, Situational Method was born. This method emphasizes that when students learn vocabulary and grammar foundation to a certain extent, it is time to begin with reading and writing training.来.自>优:尔论`文/网www.youerw.com

In the 1950s, conversion generative grammar had caused a revolution in linguistics. Grammar has a huge impact on grammar teaching. Its effect on foreign language teaching is: dedicated to foreign language education researchers  and teachers began to suspect that what was the dominant method. They began   searching

for the grammar teaching method which could promote students' oral English ability, and the student's actual language using ability.

In the late 1970s, Krashen's Monitor Theory was in strong demand in North America for foreign language teaching. He thought that grammar should not enter the classroom activity, because the effect of grammar is borderline,  and grammatical forms of learning on the part is unreliable. In recent years, more and more foreign language teachers think that grammar knowledge can help students confirmed for the purpose of unconscious assumptions.
