Concentrated on the love between Winston and Julia, this thesis attempts to pluck the features of love against the backdrop of totalitarianism。 Divided into three parts, the paper firstly discusses the realness of love。 Contrary to Winston and his wife’s compulsory love relationship, what happened between Winston and Julia was real emotion。 They decided to stick with each other from the deep side of their heart。 Then it probes into the rebelliousness of love, which is rooted in every acts and thoughts of hero and heroine。 They shared the same disgust for the ridiculous society and did some unknown things to rebel the totalitarian system。 As a result, they set their foot on the road of secret love together to express their hate for the institution。 Last, the thesis reveals the vulnerability of love that is inevitable characteristic of emotion in this horrible country。 After a series of thrilling torture and brainwashing, they both ended in a tragic a论文网bandonment。 Everything seems tiny in front of totalitarianism, even the most powerful love can not stand the trial of it, and thus provoking people ponder on the cruelty of totalitarianism。
2。 Literature Review
Research and discussion on George Orwell has started in 1950s in West, but it had not come off in China until 1984 when Dong Leshan’s Chinese version was published。 The initial study of his work mainly focused on its social values and autocratic scheme because of the Cold War。 Christopher Hollis’s A Study of George Orwell (1956) is the best and earliest academic study of Orwell so far。 Jeffery Meyer’s George Orwell: the Critical Heritage (1975) incorporated and edited many official remarks and thesis of 1970s and 1980s。 However, after cold war, the concentration of study turned to interpretations of humanity, mechanism of power and feminism。 One of the representative works is Wang Jicheng’s Interpretation of Totalitarianism in Nineteen Eighty-Four (2010)。 In more recent years, the work has also drawn reviews and criticism from a wider range of perspectives。 Among them, studies from the perspective of how humanity is destroyed are of the most interest to the author of the thesis。 In the course of research, it is found out that some predecessors, both abroad and domestic, have done great and provoking jobs associated with this topic in one way or another。 Patrick Reilly also devotes part of his efforts of research to the theme of humanity。 Peng Zhu’s paper The pursuit of Humanity under Totalitarianism in Nineteen Eighty-Four touches upon the humanism in a broader sense (Peng Zhu, 2010:32)来,自,优.尔:论;文*网www.youerw.com +QQ752018766-
From what has been mentioned above, many author attached great importance on the subjects of humanity and totalitarianism。 However, recently, increasing people have tended to study the themes of language controlling and linguistic characteristics。 Weng Lu’s paper The cage of language illustrates the role that the power of language played in common life。 It was published on the Journal of Leshan Teachers College (Weng Lu, 2002:21)。 Zhao Shijin’s Dystopian novel 1984: Interpretation of the text structure and language(2011)has presented the linguistic characteristics and the imitations in narrative techniques and structure。
Taking the past topics into consideration, I think there is still much room deserved to exploring, such as the theme of love, implied meaning of space and some applied writing styles。 Based on a close reading of Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four and his other works, an overall research and a detailed study of the relative reference books and literary criticism, the author determines to analyzes Nineteen Eighty-Four in another way-love。 On one hand, love, a permanent theme of almost every novel, is one of the most important reasons of being alive for a person。 If a man is deprived of the right to love someone following his heart, he will find himself being soulless and hard to go。 On the other hand, love is a significant clue in the whole novel, which plays a critical role in promoting the development of plot。 论《1984》中温斯顿和裘莉亚的爱情(2):http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_87046.html
