Abstract   Sons and Lovers is one of D。H。 Lawrence’s famous works。 Since the novel came out, the studies at home and abroad were focalized on feminism, female tragedy and ecological ethic。 This thesis focuses on the Oedipus complex。 It will first analyze Freud’s psychoanalytic theory of Oedipus complex。 Secondly, the paper explores D。H。 Lawrence’s description of Paul in Sons and Lovers, and analyzes the reasons and manifestations of Paul’s Oedipus complex。 Then, it will deal with the Oedipus complex’s influences on Paul。 Finally, the paper will examine how Paul gets rid of the Oedipus complex。76027

1。 Introduction

     Lawrence’s works basically are realism。 Because of his endless descriptions on struggles of mind in daily life, many of his novels are filled with a melancholy mood。 His poetry often describes magnificent natural scenery, and is different from the novel’s style。 Lawrence’s most famous novels include Sons and Lovers (1913), The Rainbow (1915), Women in Love (1920) and Lady Chatterley’s Lover (1928)。 The location of these novels is the writer’s hometown, Nottingham Shire, a harsh natural condition of the mine。 Although in real life, Lawrence chose to leave his home, but he described this place in his novels again and again。 The works of Lawrence are still realistic but the book depicts the emotional and sex very straightforwardly and outspoken。 This is very rare in his time。 

     Sons and Lovers is Lawrence’s first novel。 The novel deals with a story what happened between a mother and a son。 The first generation in the book was the couple of Mr。 Morel and Mrs。 Morel。 Mr。 Morel was originally full of energy, optimistic, pleasant, but later he had bad temper, alcoholism and became a zombie。 Mrs。 Morel was disappointed at her husband and turned her hopes to the sons。 Because her beloved eldest son William unfortunate premature deaths, she had strong feelings on the second son, Paul。 Paul’s two girlfriends had a different concept of love, and they let him don’t know how to get along with them。 Paul was under the shadow of his mother and unable to choose his own way of life。 Until his mother died, he was off the leash。 After his mother’s death, Paul decided to leave home and went to the city。论文网 《儿子与情人》中保罗的恋母情结:http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_87122.html
