On the Advantages and Disadvantages of Carrying Out Bilingual Education in the English Class of Primary School
Chapter One Introduction
1。1 Background of this study
In western countries, bilingual education started in 19th and originated from in Canada, America and many other countries。 Also, bilingual education has achieved a lot of success。 According to its basic theory, bilingual education in those countries has cultivated a mature system of itself。 Bilingual education is regarded by the worldwide foreign language teaching society as a successful foreign language teaching policy。
Because of various teaching objects, we employ the term bilingual teaching in China rather than bilingual education。 Compared with other subjects, English is the subject which is given most time and energy by teachers and students in China。 But the achievements are not well-pleasing。 Many students couldn’t read English articles effectively after learning。 Although they learn English for about 8 or 12 years, they still have a poor ability of listening and speaking。 As the 21st century comes, the talented people are required to speak internationalized language, and they should confront the globalization, internationalization and information-based standards。 In order to face the challenges of the times and aim at our low efficiency of foreign language teaching for a long time, many scholars have begun to make surveys on bilingual teaching, and give some suggestions on how to promote the students’ ability of using English。文献综述
Bilingual teaching can never be examined in isolation from the social and political conditions in which it is used。 The development and reform of education have been an important strategy to the intense international competition in every country in the 21st century。 With the development of modern communication technique and the frequent communication on economy, science and technology, culture and education, the world becomes smaller and the international connection becomes closer than before。 Nowadays, the development of education pays attention to the reform of courses and teaching in the school。 At present, under the instruction of the policy of national science education development, Chinese government attaches high importance to basic education, and requires future basic education should be helpful to train the new type talents。 The new-type talents are those who can satisfy the needs of the new technology reformations and can fit the fierce international competition in this century。 Li lianning(2009) who is the former department of Basic Education Department of China believes that man should master basic knowledge and skills of the lifelong study in the new class contents。 The basic knowledge and skills are quite vital。 Educational workers should reinforce foreign language education and the information technology education。 Foreign language needs to be connected to each subject rightly, that is, teachers need use two languages to perform the teaching activity。”
Many scholars have begun to use the bilingual teaching method to teach students English for 10 years。 It has gotten many achievements, though there is not a full system of theory in bilingual teaching。
1。2 The significance and purpose of this study
