Chapter Two Literature Review
2。1 What is teaching style?
The teaching style, which is the unique, harmony combining and frequent manifestations of teachers’ educational thoughts, personality traits and educational techniques in the process of education, is characteristics of teaching activities。 In other words, teaching styles are different teaching methods and strategies。 Not two teachers are alike, and any teachers with classroom teaching experiences will agree that their styles of teaching are uniquely their own。 There are four features of teaching style: 1) the art of teaching, which refers to right use of teaching techniques, embodies a kind of artistic effect; 2) the creativity of teaching, referring to uniqueness of teachers’ teaching contents, teaching methods and teaching processes; 3) the effectiveness of teaching。 It means that it proves effective for mastering of students’ knowledge and skills and the development of thoughts; and 4) the stability of mentality characteristics, which one teacher is consistently pursuing, reflecting his/her good psychological quality, distinct personality and strong self-confidence of building this teaching style。 来~自,优^尔-论;文*网www.youerw.com +QQ752018766-
2。2 What are the different styles of teaching?
The following list of teaching styles features the five main strategies teachers use in the classroom, and the benefits and possible traps of every teaching method。
2。2。1 Authority, or lecture style
The authority model is teacher-centered and frequently needs long lecture periods or single presentations。 Students are expected to take notes or absorb information。 This style is effective for some disciplines which belong to higher-education and big classroom settings with large number of students。 The pure teaching style is common for subjects like history and geography that really need memorization of key facts, dates, etc。 But it is a quite questionable style for children, especially for pupils of primary school, because it does not have much interaction between teachers and students。
