Abstract A Streetcar Named Desire, as one of Tennessee Williams's masterpieces, won the Pulitzer Prize in 1948。 In the 1950s, it was made into a movie, and won a number of awards of Oscar in the United States, including the best actress, the best supporting actor, and the best supporting actress。81287

In the mid-20th century, a sharp contradiction formed between the northern modern industrial civilization and the southern traditional planting civilization。 Under such a background, Tennessee Williams created Blanche, who is a representative of the southern ladies and also a contradictory figure。 This paper attempts to analyze the reasons leading to the tragic fate of the protagonist, Blanche, in the classic work of Tennessee Williams, A Streetcar Named Desire。 Furthermore, it is also hoped that by the analysis of these factors, some inspiration and help can be given to people who are in the same situation。

The paper consists of five chapters。 The first chapter starts with a brief introduction to Tennessee Williams and his classic work A Streetcar Named Desire。 The second chapter presents a description for the tragic fate of Blanche, and paves the way for following chapter。 The third chapter explores the causes of the fate of Blanche’s tragedy, which will be discussed from three perspectives。 The first is the influence of the background of the 20th century on Blanche’s character and thought; the second is Blanche’s inpidual character and her attitude to her life; the third is Blanche’s life experience。 The fourth chapter mainly talks about the realistic significance that can be learned from the story of Blanche。 In the final part, a natural conclusion of the research project is reached。

摘要《欲望号街车》作为田纳西·威廉斯的代表作之一，曾在1948年获得普利策奖，并于20世纪50年代被翻拍成电影，且赢得了美国奥斯卡的多项大奖，包括最佳女主角、最佳男配角、最佳女配角等。

20世纪中叶的美国，北方现代工业文明与南方传统种植文明形成了尖锐的矛盾，田纳西·威廉斯在这样的时代背景下创作了布兰奇，一位南方淑女的代表，亦是一位内心充满矛盾的人物。本论文尝试分析田纳西·威廉斯的著作《欲望号街车》中，导致主角布兰奇悲剧命运的原因，也希望通过对这些因素的剖析能给身处同样境遇的人们一些启示与帮助。

本篇论文共包括五章内容。第一章是导论，对于作者田纳西·威廉斯的生平和著作《欲望号街车》进行介绍。第二章是对布兰奇的悲剧命运进行描述，为下文分析其原因铺垫。第三章探究了导致布兰奇悲剧命运的原因，本文将从三个角度进行探讨，第一是20世纪的时代背景对布兰奇的性格、思想所产生影响；第二是布兰奇个人的性格特征以及她的处世态度；第三是布兰奇的生活经历，来到奥尔良前后的不同生活。第四章是思考剧本中所描绘的布兰奇的形象给我们带来的现实意义。最后一部分总结课题。
