Abstract The sufficient knowledge and Holmes’ rational characteristics made up the kind of legend and adventure he possessed in solving the crime。 The complex and mysterious characteristics in Conan Doyle’s detective fiction and the resourceful, omnipotent, mysterious characteristics in Sherlock Holmes made Holmes almost a mythological figure。 Holmes greatness established on institution and epiphany of rationality。 His creative imagination, fickle skills, strong ability to penetrate through tiny clues of the essence of things consisted the scientific rationality, which is the perfect combination of the artist’s spiritual。81828

Holmes is, as it were, the perfect embodiment of the scientific and rational in the 19th century in Europe。 By observation and reasoning, he can see through a person's everything in the short period of time。 He has always been able to find clues to make the case for the mystery of the case, and many of his tips have even inspired the current criminal investigation。 Moreover, he was full of sense of justice, strong motivation, quick thinking, and the purest flash of the human spirit。 

But he also had a drawback: he was a loner, unwilling to associate with others。 He liked to make fun of others, and even Watson, who was close to him, was sometimes ridiculed。 Sometimes he would break the law for his purpose。 He also had a very unhealthy lifestyle and was an addict。 Yet it is because of his near-mythological shortcomings that humane find him perfectly real。

19世纪的欧洲，福尔摩斯代表乐科学理性最完美的化身。他能通过观察和推理看透一个人的内心，能从蛛丝马迹中将错综复杂的案子查的水落石出。直至今日，他很多的破案技巧常被引用在当代的刑侦学中。这些推理技巧被世人拍案叫绝。此外，福尔摩斯极具正义感、执行力强、思维灵敏，有着人文精神最亮眼的光芒。

然而，他也有着不可小觑的缺点：他生性孤僻，不善与人交往。他喜欢讥笑他人，即便是他为数不多的好友华生，也常常被他嘲讽。有时候为了达到自己的目的，他也会触犯法律程序。此外，他还有着很不健康的生活习惯，被现代人们称为“瘾君子”。瑕不掩瑜，也正是因为他身上的这些缺点才让世人觉得他更加真实。
