2 Literature Review
2。1 Intercultural Communication Awareness
Intercultural communication studies was born 50 years ago, with the sign of The Silent Language of Edward Twitehell Hall,Jr。 Intercultural communication refers to the communication between people from different culture groups。 Culture is nation-centric, resulting in the differences in cultures, which sets barriers for the communication。 Thus the discussion of the two important concepts in intercultural communication: intercultural communication awareness and intercultural communication ability, has gained great concern。文献综述
Cultural differences will hinder the intercultural communication。 To make the intercultural communication fluent, communication participant should first cultivate intercultural communication awareness, the importance of which has been repeatedly in English Teaching (Wang, 2008), (Yan &Li, 2008)。 It also draws attention in other fields including tourism (Sun, 2014)。
In many researches, ‘intercultural communication ability’ and ‘intercultural communication awareness’ are discussed together and some even mix them。 However, Wang (2015) held that ‘intercultural communication ability’ and ‘intercultural communication awareness’ should be two different concepts。 Intercultural communication ability is a comprehensive ability, emphasizing on knowledge and skills (especially skills) while intercultural communication awareness is emphasized on emotion and awareness。
