摘要家庭是构成人类社会的一个基本单位，更是每个人步入社会之前最重要的启蒙之地. 家庭价值是社会价值的重要组成部分，家庭价值观是文化研究的重点，它对于家庭成员的行为有着深远的影响。家庭成员的家庭价值观对他们的言语和行为起着重要的作用。本文旨在从孝道，婚姻，家庭教育方面对中美家庭价值观进行比较性研究，从地理位置，历史背景，信仰三个角度分析造成中美家庭价值观差异的原因，从而为人们在两种截然不同的家庭价值观之间架起一座沟通的桥梁。21977

Abstract Family is a basic unit of all human societies, and it is the most important place of enlightenment before people step into the society. Family values are the important section of society values, and they are the most important point of the cultural value study system and have profound influences on the language and behavior of family members. This paper aims to make a clear and direct contrastive study on Chinese and American family values from three aspects including filial piety, marriage and family education and to analyze reasons for the differences from three aspects including geographic location, historical background and belief, so that it can bridge over people’s communication gap between the two different kinds of family values.

I. Introduction
Human beings form various kinds of values, and each one has its own unique system of values. There exist some common values which guide people’s thoughts and regulate people’s social behavior in every cultural environment. These common values can be called cultural values. Family is the initial place where cultural values are formed. Family, as the most fundamental unit of all human societies, directly influences the formation of the cultural values of the whole society.
Family values reflect cultural characteristics and unique features of a nation. Family is the most important place of enlightenment before people step into the society. People develop their habits, beliefs and rituals in family. A person’s behavior, thoughts and language are all formed in family from the wider cultural context. Every nation has its unique family values. China and America are two countries under different cultural backgrounds. Misunderstanding and barriers are inevitable in communication owing to cultural differences. Chinese put emphasis on collectivism, stressing that inpidual interest should submit to collective interests. However, Americans consider inpidualism as the core, and they believe personal interest is above everything else.
