    摘 要众所周知,词汇在英语学习中扮演着重要的角色。如果学生没有掌握大量的英语单词,那么他们就不可能学好英语。但是中学英语的词汇教学仍然存在着很多的问题。因此本文基于作者的实习经历, 大量的调查和数据资料的收集,认真分析了中学英语词汇教学中存在的问题,并提出了相应的策略。希望通过运用这些方法,中学生可以更加有效地学习英语词汇。34548

    Abstract As we all know, vocabulary plays an important role in English learning. It is impossible for students to have a good command of English without a large English vocabulary. However, there are still some problems of vocabulary teaching and learning in junior middle school. Therefore, in order to analyze the problems carefully and then provide some solutions, the author conducted many investigations, collected statistic data and analyzed the data carefully based on the author’s practical experience. Hopefully, by using these methods, junior middle school students can learn English vocabulary more effectively.

    I. Introduction

    British linguist D.A.Wilkins once said, “Without grammar, one cannot expresses many things, without words, one cannot expresses anything” (111). The Lexicologist Mecca said much more directly, “a student who learns a second foreign language, language communication is difficult to achieve, if he only masters very few words, no matter how well he learns the grammar or how nice his pronunciation is”(Choms 124). Vocabulary is the key to learn a language well. Without vocabulary, there would not have sentence, text or language. For foreign language learners, the mastery of the targeted language vocabulary is an important aspect to improve foreign language level. And generally, the second language learners hold the opinion that it is vocabulary, not grammar that hinders them from fluently communicating with others. There is no doubt that English vocabulary learning makes great contribution to the improvement of English study. So it is necessary for junior middle school students to master a large amount of vocabulary. However, vocabulary learning is also the most difficult task in junior middle school students’ English learning. In the process of English study, students find that the number of English vocabulary is large and their usages are complex. A few students may have a good grasp of English grammar, but because of the shortage of vocabulary, they still have great difficulty in reading, communicating and writing in English. As a result, students have to spend a lot of time in memorizing English vocabulary. If things go on like this, students may have a hard time in memorizing these English words. All this shows that vocabulary teaching is a difficult and important task in junior middle school English teaching. According to the National English Curriculum Standard issued by Ministry of Education in China, junior middle school students must master the usage of 1500-1600 words and 200-300 idioms and fixed collocations (3-5). And now, in order to meet new national curriculum standard’s requirement, junior middle school students need master 2100 English words or so, which creates a great pressure to English teachers. As an English teaching worker in junior middle school, how to teach English vocabulary effectively will affect the students directly in understanding and mastering English. The task of vocabulary teaching is to make students not only learn the specified words but also master the way to learn vocabulary and memorize words quickly and effectively, and also to foster students’ capability in speculating the meaning of vocabulary and understanding the meaning of sentence according to the context and the knowledge of word-formation. Therefore, vocabulary teaching is very important in junior middle school English teaching.
