Abstract Translation is a course of language conversion as well as culture spread. It is translation that enables all unique and distinct nations of the world to broaden their vision, enrich their knowledge, renovate their values, passionate for innovation and also promote literacy.Translation is not only an action of transferring from one language to another, but also a process of shifting from one mode of thinking to another. Due to the distinct differences exist in both external form and internal mechanism of two languages, untranslatability occurs. This thesis will discuss several compensation strategies dealing with untranslatability from the Skopostheory which regards reaching the communicative purpose as the ultimate goal for target readers during the translation.48709
The paper falls into five parts. The first part serves as an introduction. The second part is taken as the literature review, focusing on the study related to my study. The third part aims at probing into the phenomenon of untranslatability in the practice of C-E/E-C translation at both the linguistic and the cultural levels. The fourth part exploits the compensation strategies of untranslatability. The fifth part functions as a conclusion.

摘要翻译不仅是语言之间的转换过程,也是文化的传播过程。正是翻译才能使得世界上各有特色的民族打开视野、丰富知识、翻新价值观、有激情不断创新并且提升素养。翻译不仅仅是语言的转换,从更深层意义上说,它涉及到两种思维模式的转换。由于两种语言的外在形式以及内部结构上都有显著的差异,在这两种语言的互译过程中势必会产生不可译性。本文将从目的论的视角分析不可译性的产生并且提供一些翻译补偿对策,旨在使翻译达到其沟通目的,使目标读者明白译文。
本论文将分为五大部分。第一部分作为介绍。第二部分作为文献综述,聚焦于与我研究相关的文献资料。第三部分致力于从语言和文化两个层面探讨英汉/汉英翻译中的不可译现象。第四部分将研究不可译的翻译补偿策略。第五部分是总结。
