This thesis, based on the Skopos theory, uses examples from literary materials and comparison techniques to analyze the loss of semantic meaning of the original text in translation and provides translation compensation strategies in order to help the translators figure out ways dealing with the loss of important semantic units. Viewing from the angle of the Skopos theory, this thesis not only helps the translators acquire better understanding of the untranslatable elements in cross-cultural translation, but also provides a way of how to enhance the equality of a translated work by making the translation readable and understandable for target readers. Meanwhile, the emphasis of the Skopos theory also provides reference for later researches in the field of translation.
