Anna’s tragic fate is inevitable and regrettable, but it leaves us with enlightenments and encouragements. At that time, there was not enough room for feminist consciousness to develop. But today, it depends on women themselves. With more and more studies and efforts, the same tragedy will become less and less. Therefore, based on the previous studies of Anna Karenina’s tragic fate and my own understanding, The paper will analyze it from the perspective of gender.

As a woman who dares to defy the patriarchy authority, her actions and thoughts are worth thinking. What's more, Anna's tragic fate can serve as a prime example of women's liberation.

2. Literature Review
To make a more deep and comprehensive understanding of the factors that contributing to Anna’s tragedy, many related studies mainly focus on the external factors such as the social and historical background. While others explore the tragedy from the perspective of feminism which sheds lights on the deep sense of female characters, this approach goes straight to the heart of the root that breeds the tragedy and enables us to realize the unfair treatment towards men and women, the weakness of women and obstacles that keep women from achieving liberation. There’s no doubt that women should be aware of the importance of independent female consciousness, realize self-value and find the most suitable goals and position.源^自·优尔|文\论]文'网[www.youerw.com
2.1 Previous Studies on the External Factors Contributing to the Tragic Fate of Anna Karenina
To probe into the origin of Anna’s tragic, some scholars starts with the author. Based on a study of several heroines in Tolstoy's fictions, in “Women in Tolstoy’s: the Ideal and Erotic”, Ruth Crego Benson seeks to define Tolstoy's attitudes towards women, love, marriage and family. In the research perspective towards the author, Benson develops a multilevel analysis of the ideal and erotic women in Tolstoy’s works. She points out that it was an ambivalent hostile coming from Tolstoy’s bottom of heart that creates the image and suffering of Anna. Benson’s research offers an indirect correlation to a crucial area of Russian nineteenth-century literature: male-female relationships. (Benson, 1973) To learn something about the author surely helps to understand the characters better and deeper. But it is hard to find the close connections between the causes of Anna’s tragedy and Tolstoy’s personal experiences. The studies about Tolstoy can only be used for the social and historical background investigation about Anna.
