On the other hand, foreignization makes the source language culture as the destination. That I to say, the translator should try to retain the style of the source text to preserve the exoticism of the source culture. Foreignizating translation is a strategy in translation used to make the reader appreciate the original culture at the cost of language specifications to the target language. Foeignization entails choosing a foreign text and developing a translation method along lines which are excluded by dominant cultural values in the target language. (Jeremy Munday, 2010: 147)
The reasons why translators use foreignizating translation are followed: first, for the purpose of reading the translation, the reader can learn more about foreign culture. Second, the translator should believe the intelligence and imagination of the reader, which is exactly different from domestication. Third, the source culture can enrich the means of expression of the target culture. Last, the translation should play a role in culture exchange. In the final analysis, domestication and foreignization are two aspects of a contradiction. The relationship between domestication and foreignization is not just unified but opposite. There exists no absolute domestication and foreignization. People who are in favor of foreignizating translation think that there are two main purposes of translation: one is for making the reader in the target language know more about foreign cultures and customs, and the other is for that retaining the features of the source culture can enrich the expressions of the target culture. On the contrary, people who support domestication take the opinion that even though every word in the source text can be translated by exact equivalents in the target language, we can not make sure that the influence on the reader of the target language is the same to the reader from the source language. Every reader always understands the translation by their own cultural concepts.
