The character Amelia is built as the common female, kind, lovely and beautiful who represents most women both at that time and nowadays. Presumably because of the appreciation and sympathy to this kind of women, Thackeray created such a woman, containing not only a girl’s innocence and kindness, but also the timidity and weakness. Vanity Fair is a dirty place in which full of hypocrisy, money interests and betray. It is too cruel for such a pure girl.
