1。 Introduction
1。1 Purpose and significance of the study
The study of students’ participation and concentration in English class has become an important aspect of students’ English learning。 When I worked as an intern in Hnagzhou Cuiyuan Junior high school, I found that some excellent students were unwilling to take an active part in answering questions though they had clear ideas about the answer。 I also noticed that some students whose English is poor (English listening, speaking, writing and so on) had difficulty in concentrating in English class。 This phenomenon is more severe in higher grade in junior high school。 As time goes by, more and more students are reluctant to express themselves in English class。 Therefore, it is necessary for teachers to improve students’ participation and concentration in English class so as to improve the whole classroom teaching and learning efficiency。 The objective of this research is to put forward some suggestions to enhance and prompt the positive and initiative of students’ participation and concentration according to the observation and analysis of certain factors which influence students’ participation and concentration in English class in junior high school。 It also aims to know whether those methods are effective or not。
Empirical research of students’ participation and concentration is popular among researchers。 However, at present, a tremendous number of researches on students’ participation and concentration focus on science classroom teaching process。 Moreover, even though there are some researches about students’ participation and concentration in English class, these two concepts are always separately studied and those researches are always talking about middle school or senior high school。 Few scholars do research on students’ participation and concentration in English class in Junior high school which make this paper helpful for teachers to be more targeted in prompting positivity and initiative of students’ participation and concentration in English class in junior high school。

National Compulsory Education Curriculum Standards in English of 2011 require students to master basic English listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills and to develop the basic ability to communicate with others in English。 The standards encourage students to learn things by themselves from teachers’ guidance through various kinds of interactive activities thus students can cultivate their learning interests, positive learning attitude, good learning habits and the awareness of using English in daily life。 Therefore, teachers need to improve students’ awareness of concentrating on as well as participating in English class positively and actively。
