Abstract This thesis is based on the studies of domestication and foreignization theories,discussing the translation of Chinese movie tiles。 Against the backdrop of “going global” strategies, translation of movie titles plays a crucial role in deepening foreign audience’s comprehension of the movies, also, in boosting the spread of the movies。 However, concerning the function of culture exchanging that movies posses, theories of domestication and foreignization will certainly attract wide attention 。The title translation will inevitably encounter the gap of different languages and cultures。 Therefore, it is difficult to achieve equivalence of characteristics of language, culture and function。 Then two different opinions will be held, namely, domestication method and foreignization method。 Film title needs to not only reflect the artistic value, but also reflect the box office appeal。 This paper discusses the application of domestication and  foreignization in translation of movie titles through some relevant examples。 Furthermore, under these examples, advantages and disadvantages of each approach are analyzed。 In this paper, from the perspective of domestication and foreignization theory, characteristics of translation of Chinese film titles and the translation strategies used by translators are analyzed through specific examples。75664

摘要本文以归化与异化理论为基础,探讨中国电影片名的翻译。在中国文化走出去战略背景下,电影片名的翻译在加强目标观众对电影的深层理解以及推动电影走向世界方面扮演着重要角色。考虑到电影文化交流的特殊功能,人们不得不把目光转向归化和异化翻译法。本文通过相关译例讨论归化与异化在影视片名翻译中的应用,以及各自方法的利与弊。

1。 Introduction 

China has become NO。2 biggest economic entity in the world。 By contrast, the popularity of Chinese culture is simply no match for the level of our economy。 Always, European and American cultures play a leading role in the world’s cultural circle。 Owing to China’s weak discourse power, a great many foreigners know very little about China and Chinese culture。 More seriously, misunderstanding and even defaming of China is never a rare phenomenon。论文网

Under these circumstances, in the Sixth Session of the Seventeenth CPC, the strategy of Chinese culture “going global” was formulated to develop culture industries at an accelerating rate and enhance international cultural exchanges。 As a kind of mass media, movies are of great importance in advancing mutual communication。 Taking ethical characteristics and commercial interests into consideration, we should properly use domestication and foreignization in translation of movie titles, handling well the differences between source language and target language。 This paper will discuss the application of domestication and foreignization in terms of both target aspect and language aspect through concrete examples。
