Abstract
English is a common language widely used in the international communication. In many countries, it is used as their mother tongue. In addition, many other countries use it as their official language. It is also one of the working languages in the United Nations and is far more frequently used than the others. With the fast development of the global economy and culture, the world acts increasingly like a global village, where people can communicate with one another easily. Nowadays, English is playing such an important role that it serves as a bridge to communicate with everyone in the world.
Realizing the importance of English, Chinese people are actually eager to learn English well. English is made one of the compulsory courses in Chinese elementary education. Though plenty of time and energy are devoted to this subject, students still find it hard to communicate in English. The phenomenon of “deaf-and-dumb English”, in other words, English learning with poor communicative ability, is very common on campus. People blame it for its low efficiency and being time consuming. Therefore, reform of College English Teaching has become an urgent issue.
By analyzing the urgent needs of college students and existing problems in the related field, this thesis tries to put forward some suggestions for erecting a new effective College English Teaching mode from the perspective of English for Academic Purposes (EPA). This thesis aims at attracting more attention from all aspects of the society in terms of CET reform. With constant exploration and perfection, the education of English could make a great progress.

摘要
作为国际交流中最广泛使用的一门通用语言。英语在许多国家被作为母语使用,在其他许多国家被作为官方语使用。它也是联合国的工作用语之一,但和其它工作语言相比英语显然是使用频率最高的语言。随着国际经济、全球文化的快速发展,地球越来越像一个小村子,人们的沟通更加便捷。英语则是在作为沟通的桥梁发挥着非常重要的作用。
意识到英语具有独特的重要性,中国人一直对英语的学习表现出极大的热情。在中国的基础教育当中,英语被列为必修课程。虽然投入了很多精力和时间,但是成效甚微,学生们仍然难以用英语进行正常的沟通。英语教学中,“哑巴英语”长期存在,大学英语教学也因其低效耗时而备受责难。因此大学英语教学改革势在必行。
