2 Types of Image
After the 1990s, there are many types of Chinese image. After the research of the related films, Chinese images after 1990s can be classified into four images.
2.1 Kung Fu Master
We can’t forget Bruce Lee at the mention of Kung Fu. It was Bruce Lee that brought Kung Fu to Hollywood and made it popular in the USA. Bruce Lee's life is too short to shine in Hollywood , but he was like a comet across the sky of martial arts circles, as well as the films. His popularity made many foreigners come to pay close attention to Kung Fu. Bruce Lee was the first Chinese American male to break through cultural and racial barriers in the United States to become a martial arts hero during the era of the civil rights movement. His cinematic image dismissed previous stereotype of the yellow peril and model minority (Chan J,2001) .

In the movie Rush Hour (1998) , Jackie Chan played the main role of a Hong Kong police, who had an American partner, Chris Tucker, a funny black policemen from the Los Angeles police department. They worked together to solve a lot of international cases. In the film, Jackie Chan had excellent Kung Fu, which made him famous and impressive. However,we can see obviously that the fact that Jackie Chan did the task for the American government. It still followed the old patten of Charlie Chan: The yellow took the order from the white and the black was the assistant of the yellow. So we can say it was a role with powerful Kung Fu and without threats. And in the film ,Jackie Chan also had a strange position. He didn’t have too many words, instead, the other actor delivered most lines, which made the Kung Fu master lose lot of charm. And the role he payed didn’t possesses any distinct personality unlike American’s super heroes who had attractive character.Even in the reality,Jackie Chan, as a super star, also shared less paycheck than the other actor Chris Tucker who was only famous in the Rush Hour series. 九十年代至今美国影视作品中的华人形象变迁(2):http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_12840.html
