F。 Scott。 Fitzgerald (1896-1940), born in St。 Paul in the Middle West of America, is famous as one of the most reputable modern American novelists。 He is considered as the representative of America's “Jazz Age” during the 1920s。 He has created a great many works during his lifetime。 Among them, the novel The Great Gatsby is the most excellent and popular one。 By the time it came out in 1925, this novel did not attract much attention of critics。 But after the death of Fitzgerald in 1940, there have been a growing number of scholars making researches on him and his works。 Most of these scholars concentrate on the research of The Great Gatsby, which was created during the Jazz Age。 This novel is regarded as the essence of American literature and a historic work meanwhile。 Therefore, the author is known as the chronologist of Jazz。
The Great Gatsby is a tragic novel which is about a man called Gatsby and his consistent pursuit for his American dream。 In this novel, the poor soldier Gatsby loses his heart to a girl called Daisy who comes from high society。 However, because of the impassable gulf between Gatsby and Daisy, Daisy finally makes up her mind to leave Gatsby。 Then she gets married to a man called Tom who comes from the same class as her。 Gatsby later deems that money is the most important thing。 And with his great effort, he manages to become a man who is materially rich。 For the purpose of attracting his beloved lady Daisy again, he buys a cottage which is opposite to Daisy's。 He is so indulged in his illusion that he's not aware of the fact that Daisy has changed。 Daisy ceases to be the pure girl she used to be and doesn't love him anymore meanwhile。 Finally, he died because of Daisy's crime。 As a result, his dream is shattered。 Gatsby’s tragedy is manly due to Gatsby’s twisted ambition as well as selfishness, indifference and self-deceptiveness from materialism。论文网 生态批评视角下解读《了不起的盖茨比》:http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_197289.html
