2。2 Previous studies on C-E translation of Li Bai’s poems

     Before the 20th century, SoameJennyns, as an 18th-century poet and politician, was the first one to translate the poems in Tang Dynasty including Li Bai's poems。 It had been a long period of time for C-E translation of Li Bai's poems experienced fault until Sir John Francis Davis appeared。 Though the number of his translation of Li Bai's poems was not large, some of them were of great value in translation field。 In this period, western scholars also began to focus on Li Bai and his poems。 Missionaries Joseph Edkins was the first western scholars who published research papers on this subject。 In his article, Edkins not only translated Li Bai's poems but also made comments and analysis of its theme and style。 Generally speaking, during this period, Li Bai's poems translation amount was small and the translators had no unified standard when choosing poems。
