Abstract In the 1970s, the skopos theory, proposed by Vermeer, emerged in Germany. The theory holds that translation is a purposeful activity, which should be restricted by translation purpose. The fundamental factor that influences the process of translation is the skopos of the translation action. Therefore, the translation purpose will determine the translation methods.41851

All languages are mirrors of cultures and culture-loaded words are the carriers.

In fact, culture-loaded words are those words, phrases and idioms, which symbolize some unique things in the culture and are characteristics of distinct national colors and local flavors. 

This thesis quotes the English version Camel Xiangzi translated by Shi Xiaojing as the language material, analyses and summarizes translation methods of culture-loaded words in light of Vermeer’s skopos theory. By analyzing the English translation of Chinese cultural words, this thesis hopes to provide some relevant skills for the translation of culture-loaded words in Chinese literary works.

 摘 要20世纪70年代,费米尔提出的翻译目的论产生于德国。该理论认为,翻译是一种目的性行为,由翻译目的所主导限制。翻译行为的目的性是影响翻译过程的基本因素。因此,翻译目的将决定翻译策略与方法。

语言反映文化,是文化的镜子；而文化负载词是语言的承载者。实际上,文化负载词是指单词、短语和习语。它们象征着一种文化中的独一无二事物,具有鲜明的民族性和地域色彩。

本论文以施晓菁所译《骆驼祥子》 为语言材料,以费米尔翻译目的论为理论框架,分析归纳不同种类中国文化负载词所用的翻译方法。据此,本论文希望给予中国文学作品的翻译一些技巧和方式。
