In order to expand the influence of aestheticism, Oscar Wilde, in 1881, was invited to the United States to give lectures and then blowing up an “aesthetics cyclone” in America. The reporter of The Herald asked him about that whether the aesthetics could be called the philosophy, he confidently replied: “of course it is philosophy. It studies what can be found in art and seek the secret of life. It always represents the eternal truth in art that is the great basic truth, so can be regarded as the art of aesthetics.” At this point, Oscar Wilde has been becoming the most active advocates of aestheticism.
