My profound gratitude first goes to Associate Prof. my supervisor, for her constant guidance and encouragement in the process of my writing. She offered me considerable and constructive advice, practical and profound suggestions on the completion of my paper. Just under her careful and patient guidance, I begin to get a clear idea of the paper and fully frame it out. Without her support and help, the completion of the present thesis is impossible.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the teachers who have ever taught me throughout my college years, especially Yuanbing, my British and American Culture course teacher. Her profound knowledge of western cultures led me into the world of culture, and also inspired me to make efforts in English learning. Abstract
Wuthering Heights, is one of the most popular and highly regarded novels in English literature and its main character, Heathcliff is a charming character. The Golden Cangue is known as one of the greatest medium-length novels in contemporary literature of China. Its main character is Cao QiQiao. The two characters both have a tragic fate.
There are many studies on Wuthering Heights and The Golden Cangue but there are not many studies which focus on the comparison of the tragic fate of Heathcliff and CaoQiQiao. However, I think they do have something which deserves to be analyzed, such as their times, their characteristic and their similarities and differences. Through this kind of comparison of their tragic fate, we can know how people’s personality can affect people’s life and what is the influence of time on people’s fate. I mainly use comparative analysis in the paper.
The paper falls into five parts. The first part serves as an introduction. The second part explodes the time background. The third part aims at analyzing their tragic fate. The fourth part probes into their similarities and differences. The fifth part functions as a conclusion.

摘要呼啸山庄是英国文学史上最受欢迎也是享有盛誉的小说之一，小说的主人公——希斯克利夫夫是一个十分耐人寻的角色。金锁记是中国当代文学史上最伟大的中篇小说之一，小说的主人公曹七巧十分特别。这两个角色都有着悲剧的命运。
有很多关于呼啸山庄和金锁记的研究却鲜有人对比两部小说主人公希斯克利夫和曹七巧的悲剧命运，而我觉得他们两个身上的确有值得对比和研究的地方比如可以对比他们的时代，他们的性格，他们的异同，通过这种对比，可以看出性格对命运的影响力以及时代对命运的影响。
本篇论文共分为五部分。第一部分是介绍。第二部分阐述了两人的悲剧民滚。第三部分主要研究时代背景。第四部分两个主人公命运的异同。第五部分是结尾。
