Our educators are accustomed to regard teaching method as a means of which teachers take advantage to accomplish the task of teaching the course. With this understanding, the teaching method is merely one content-centric method in classroom teaching of those specific teaching methods.
As the name suggests, the Game Teaching Method is a pedagogy teaching in the form of game, which allows students to learn the content of the textbook in a lively atmosphere, in the joy of pleasant activities, fierce competition, even in stimulation and addiction, to learn or to master the extra-curricular scientific knowledge. Game teaching method is an ingenious combination between pupils and the knowledge that they need to learn.
After joining the WTO, China becomes more open, so the new generation of society should have the ability to have an international awareness and international exchanges. We deeply appreciate it that English is the international language for communication, and children learn English in the 21st century is a basic education mission of this era. English learning should start with children, which is aimed to truly form a standard tone of voice, as well as free expression and interpersonal skills.
With the development of the global economy, especially the rising of China, English has been the most important too of communicating with foreign countries, thus, more and more attention has paid to that international language. In China, the number of English learners at different levels, ranging from pupils to postgraduates, has reached two hundred millions, or even more. What is more, half of them are primary school pupils. In the autumn of 2001, the Basic Requirement for Primary English course was established by the National Ministry of Education, which stipulates that students can study English from Grade three. English education is a system, where different stages are tightly linked to the next one, while primary school is the foundation of the system, because it is the starting point. In a word, primary school is so important that it is urgent to explore an effective English teaching method to meet pupils’ need of the development of characteristics and cognition.
Many parents and teachers are worried about games, in other words, they have a bias of game. It is not surprising, since so many students have been addicted to games, and as a result doped out of school, ruined themselves. China Internet Network Information Center released a survey, China Youth Internet Behavior Survey in 2011, which shows that in the end of December 2011, the scale of China’s young Internet users have reached 2.32 billion, accounting for 45.1%of the overall Internet users, 64.4% of the overall youth. But the fact is that game is not just about play, it could help to educate, to teach students. Game is a useful approach in primary English teaching. Game Teaching Method in primary English class plays an important role that other methods cannot replace. As we all know, there are four fundamental skills, listening, speaking reading and writing, which are acquired by practicing more than once .However, our pupils are too young to keep their mind concentrating on the boring lesson. What is more, it is easier for pupils to memory virtual, interesting things than tedious words in the books. Game is so interesting that it can attract pupils’ attention, arouse their interest, and as a result improve their English learning.
