Abstract Dietary culture is one of the most important parts in national culture, which has a close connection with material life and spiritual life. This paper discusses culture differences in eating habits of china and the United States. In order to get a good grasp of the diet culture of China and United States, this article starts from four aspects: dietary idea, dietary structure, table manners and dietary habits. And this paper depicts Chinese and American’s dietary culture differences. People can know more about different culture by learning the different dietary culture between Chinese and American. By comparison the research finds the roots for the dietary cultural differences between China and America which are traditional culture and geographical reasons. The common development between Chinese and American dietary culture industry in inter-cultural communication can promote Chinese and American’s communication. With the development of Chinese and American’s intercultural communication, the relationship between China and America will become closer. More importantly, it can avoid contradictions and conflicts because of different dietary culture and dietary idea when people are in the process of intercultural communication and enhance mutual understanding and communication as well as facilitate the development of catering industry.

I. Introduction
People living in different countries are influenced by respective natural environment, historical background and national culture. China is a country with a history of more than five thousand years, which also has a rich history on its dietary culture. Being a great agricultural country with large population and it has lots of food resource to feed its people. In china, food has always being put at the highest position of the country. Differently, the United States was born and bred by polity and economy. American people don’t pay much their attention to food. In the culture of America, food is just a small part of people’s daily life. The different attention they pay on food leads to different food culture. Different traditional culture brings different dietary culture characteristics. The differences in diet idea, structure table manners and dietary habits reflect the different dietary culture in different country characteristics. It is such characteristics that enriched the research value of food culture. We can have a deep understanding of these dietary culture by learning about food culture. After making a survey about these cultural differences, we can find out good ways to improve the communication between China and America. What’s more, it can help people understand Chinese and American food culture better. People can deeply learn each others’ faith, philosophical ideology and mode of thinking. It has a quite important theoretical significance on the two nations’ cross-cultural communication. Two countries can also improve their economy and avoid contradictions and conflicts when people are in the process of intercultural communication.
