Abstract Grammar is fundamental for English listening, speaking, reading and writing. Grammar also is one of the three basic components (pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar) of language, and is significant for people to learn language and to communicate. Though English prepositions are small in number, but the use of them are complex and frequent. It is one of the most difficult parts of speeches for Chinese students to learn English. Structuralists, functionalists and cognitive linguists at home and aboard have done massive researches on English prepositions from different points of view. While games help and encourage many learners to sustain their interest and work, and help the teacher to create contexts in which the language is useful and meaningful. Game teaching method has been applied to many kinds of English teaching, including vocabulary and pronunciation. Few researches investigate the relation between games and preposition, if any, they investigate broad grammar teaching. 51476
This thesis tries to investigate teaching English prepositions using game teaching method, to see whether the game teaching method is appropriate to teaching prepositions. The author chose Junior One students as participants from a junior high school in Hangzhou. Since Grade seven students are in their essential stage in learning English. Their interests in English are very important. Three research questions are addressed: 1) Can the game teaching method improve the learning of English prepositions? 2) Is it more efficient to teach the English prepositions by the game teaching method than traditional teaching methodology? 3) Was the interest of students’ English grammar learning increased using the game teaching method?
The findings of this study indicate that the game teaching method indeed improves the learning of English prepositions and is more efficient in English preposition teaching and learning than traditional method. Also, students’ English grammar learning interests and motivation were increased and they enjoy learning preposition through classroom games very much.

课堂游戏在英语语法教学中的应用摘要语法是英语听、说、读和写的基础。语法也是英语三个基本组成部分之一。英语的三个重要组成部分是发音、词汇和语法。语法对人们学习语言和交流至关重要。尽管英语介词在数量上很少,但是他们的使用却很复杂也很频繁。英语语法是中国学生学习英语的难点之一。国内外的结构心理学家、实用主义学者和认知语言学家从不同的角度和观点已经对语法做了大量的研究。同时,游戏可以帮助学习者激发兴趣,鼓励他们学习英语,也可以帮助老师创设有用和有意义的语言环境。游戏教学法已经应用到了英语教学当中,包括词汇和语音。但是很少有学者研究游戏和介词之间的关系,即使有,也是研究总体的语法教学。
本文尝试使用游戏教学法来研究英语教学,研究游戏教学法是否适合介词教学。作者选取杭州某一所中学的初一学生作为研究对象。 因为初一正处于英语学习的关键阶段,学习英语的兴趣很重要。以下是要谈论的三个问题:1.游戏教学法可以提高介词学习吗?2.游戏教学法是否比传统的教学法有效?3.通过游戏教学法,学生对于语法学习的兴趣是否增加?
研究结果表明,游戏教学法确实可以提高英语介词的学习,相比传统的教学方法,游戏教学法也更加有效。而且,学生的语法学习兴趣和动机也相应增强了,学生很喜欢通过游戏教学法来学习英语介词。
