Abstract Grammar plays an important role in English learning。 Nevertheless, it is difficult for students to master grammar very well。 Whats’ more, many students think that learning grammar is very boring, especially the students in primary school。 Therefore, in order to change this current situation, this thesis introduces a new English teaching method which is called story theme teaching method。 Obviously, this method differs from the traditional method。 In addition, it has an edge over the traditional teaching method。 The story theme teaching method is on the basis of the situational approach which turns the book knowledge into the vivid stories and thus captures the imagination of students。 Also, the story theme teaching method is based on the communicative method and the task based method which can improve the students’ language skills。 Meanwhile, according to the analysis at home and abroad, the author pays much attention to exploring how to use this method effectively for English grammar teaching in primary school。 Finally, the author finds that this method is able to maximize the students’ learning interest and improve their learning passion。 At the end of the paper, the author also puts forward some useful suggestions on this method and affirms the scientific nature and the feasibility of it。74466

摘要本文主要介绍了一种新的语法教学法叫做故事主题教学法。故事教学法以情境教学法为基础并且将书本知识改编成生动形象的故事从而引起学生的想象。与此同时,这个方法也以交际法和以任务为基础的教学法为基础从而改善学生的语言技能。并且,依据国内外的研究,笔者把注意点集中在如何在小学语法教学中有效地使用这一教学法。最后,笔者发现故事主题教学法能够最大限度地激发学生的学习兴趣以及提高他们的学习激情。在本文的结尾,笔者对这个教学法提出了一些意见并且肯定了其科学性和可行性。

1。 Introduction
What we have known is that the grammar is very important。 We can use it to help students learn the language more efficiently。 However, the focus of English teaching isn’t grammar。 Also, it is necessary and important for teachers to teach grammar in primary school.Therefore, teaching grammar is well worth the efforts in primary school。 As we all know, the grammar-translation method became very popular in 1970s, which concentrated on teaching the rules by using the mother tongue。 To some extent, it was very effective, however, it was beyond the students’ understanding especially the students in primary school。 From students’ psychological and cognitive views, it is inappropriate to use this method to teach grammar in primary school。 At present, many teachers still use this method in grammar teaching, which makes students feel very bored because the grammar-translation approach emphasizes on the grammar rules greatly。 What’s more, learning grammar itself is very difficult and the students are just told to remember the grammar rules directly。 In this way, students’ learning interest may be reduced a lot。 Therefore, many students, especially the pupils, think learning grammar is difficult and boring。 Meanwhile, how to teach grammar in primary school has been debated greatly for a long time。 The discussion focuses on what can be done to arouse students’ learning passion and how to present and practice grammar rules in primary school。 In accordance with Andrew Wright’s views, it is easy to find that teachers should employ a more effective way to teach grammar and the story theme teaching method is suitable for grammar teaching, which puts the grammar in vivid stories and is the best grammar teaching method in primary school。(Wright 4) In spite of the debate of grammar teaching in primary still remains, the teacher can not give up teaching grammar in class。 Besides, the students have to be responsible for their English exams and maybe it will take teachers plenty of time to teach grammar。 Furthermore, learning grammar very well is difficult , so the effectiveness of grammar teaching has been discussed since 2001。 Thus, this thesis aims at focusing on using a more effective way to teach grammar which is called the story theme teaching method。 Obviously, this method differs from the traditional method。 Therefore, the teacher should know the differences and main points。 Also, the teacher should know the teaching procedures of using this method。 Whether it is a useful method, this paper will discuss it in the following。
