The Strategies of Stimulating Students’ English Learning Motivation in Primary School Chapter one Introduction
1。1 Background
With the rapid development of society and economy, the process of internationalization becomes faster and faster。 As one of the most popular languages in the world, English plays a vital role in the international communication, so Chinese government attaches great importance to English education。 From the young to the old, from the rich to the poor, people from various fields pay much attention to English learning, too。 When it comes to English education in schools, students from middle schools to universities, all have to learn English and take English exams。 In this case, learning English puts great pressure not only on the students and their parents, but also on their schools and teachers。 When students enter middle school, under the pressure of entering a higher school, their teachers and parents tend to force them to work harder in English, which may lead to different results。 On the one hand, for those students that have little interest in English, they would raise their grades under the guidance of their teachers and parents。 On the other hand, more students would lose the interest for the mechanical teaching and learning。 For the latter situation, students would gain higher scores in a short term at the cost of losing their interest in English。 At the same time, in order to achieve high scores in every English examination, students are buried themselves in various English exercises, which may cause them to become “mark ace” with “dumb English” or “deaf English”。 All in all, most teachers, parents and students do not realize the real value of English and are going further and further in the wrong way。 文献综述
In order to guide students to do better in English, the educational departments are expected to offer English lessons in primary school。 As the saying goes, well began, half down。 Most people in China hold that if students can do well when they firstly learn English, they will be interested and confident in the future English learning。 So learning motivation is the key point for primary school students。 Therefore, it is very necessary to arouse the teachers’ awareness to cultivate students’ inpidual differences。 For example, learning motivation, which plays an important role in English learning, can not be ignored any more and teachers should learn how to make English learning enjoyable and effective。
Rooted in the previous researches, this paper analyzes the relationship between learning motivation and academic achievements in primary school, and suggest that teachers and parents should pay more attention to cultivate students’ motivation and interest in English。 Only in this way can the learning efficiency be highly increased。
1。2 Significance of the research
The aim of New English Curriculum Standards is to cultivate and stimulate students’ English learning interest and motivation in order to make students more confident and adopt appropriate learning methods to achieve a better effect in English learning。
Undoubtedly, the clearer and stronger the learning motivation is, the better learning initiative and learning achievements will be。 Therefore, motivation is necessary for school education in students’ English learning。 Until now, psychologists and educators have made a great progress on the research of English learning motivation。 Under the condition of exam-oriented education in China, middle school students have to keep improving their English in order to pass the exam, college students have to keep improving their English in order to seek for a good job。 It is necessary for researchers to study primary school students’ English learning situations。 However, the previous researches paid little attention to how the students, especially for the primary students, regulate their English learning motivation。
