摘要恭维语是说话人对听话人的某种双方都认可的长处或优势进行积极评价的一种语言行为。说话人通过运用恭维语可以问候和鼓励对方，缓解双方之间的矛盾，增进彼此的关系等等。由于文化背景不同，英汉恭维语之间存在较大的差异。本文以英汉恭维语为研究对象，对恭维语言产生的原因，英汉恭维语的语用功能作了初步的探讨，并具体分析了英汉恭维语的语用差异及应对策略, 旨在促进跨文化交际的顺利开展与进行。81994

Abstract Compliment language is a kind of positive language behavior that the both parties in talking evaluate positively the advantages and strengths that they both acknowledge。 Through the use of compliment language, the speaker can greet and encourage each other, ease the contradiction between the two sides, enhance one another’s relationship。 Because of the different cultural background, there are great differences between English and Chinese Compliment language。 On the basis of generalization of achievements of past scholars。 This paper uses the American and Chinese compliment language as the research target, discusses the reasons for its generation, and probes into the pragmatic differences between Chinese and American compliments language, so as to help people better conduct the inter-cultural communication。

I。 Introduction

The study of compliment language is increasing in recent years。 Linguists, both at home and abroad, study various aspects of the differences between English and Chinese compliment language from English to Chinese language form, response and gender differences。 From the cross-cultural and pragmatic study of English and Chinese compliment language pragmatic forms, it is found out the differences between east and west countries for foreign language learners, teachers and intercultural communicators, in order to avoid a compliment and hospitality misuse, to improve the equality of the exchange of cultural information, and to achieve successful communication has important significance。

Since the 1980s, the domestic and foreign linguists have done a lot of works about compliment。 Some do researches on methods, mostly at random extract compliment language in everyday life, and its response。 Someone makes the compliment collection object focus on America’s middle class。 They found that compliment language syntax and semantic structure have certain regularity。 Someone make intensive research on compliment, involve the response part of the compliment language, also found that the influence of the gender differences of compliment language。
