Based on Mental Space Theory, Conceptual Blending Theory was first brought forward by American linguists Fauconnier in his book Mapping in Thought And Language in 1997。 As he had mentioned, “all forms of thoughts are creative in the sense that they produce new links, new configurations, and correspondingly, new meaning and novel conceptualization。” (Gilles 149) Fauconnier was aimed to find out the inner mechanism behind the form of language。 Together with Turner, Fauconnier created Mental Space Theory in the 1980s。 Conceptual Blending is a basic mental operation。 It provides new research direction and new theoretical research framework for exploring human cognitive activities hiding behind the construction and paraphrasing of the on-line language meaning。
