The"crisis" and " Opportunities" of Newspaper media in emergencies
Abstract: With the characteristic of sudden, complexity, destructiveness and influence, sudden event shares an extremely high news value. Hence, it serves as a focus of attention as well as a perfect battlefield to show one’s capability. However, newspapers are limited by paper media, so they suffer from several disadvantages such as the lack of timeliness, weakness of liveness with an expression of only words & pictures, a serious tendency of homogenization, the lack of feedback mechanism from readers, management by grouping of enterprises and a low management ability. Whereas, as a traditional long tested media, newspapers reserve tremendous advantages through hundreds years of operation and development. For instance, the social authority by years of establishment, the advantage of information resources within the system, being good at depth reports and entrenched in localization. If these favorable conditions can be made good use of, newspapers will get more attentions through reports for sudden events and walk out of dilemmas gradually with realizing the transform from crisis to opportunity for newspaper media.
