Abstract In this fast-changing world, almost all living languages are in a state of continuous change。 The most active and apparent changes of English can be seen in its language, accompanying which is the birth of a large number of new words, for they enjoy the highest frequency of appearance and the widest popularity among modern people and their life。 Much has been discussed about the origin and forming of such a cultural trend。 Influence from different aspects such as different cultures, economies and politics have combined to give birth to English neologisms, which in turn reflect the further expansion of its word library system and meet the demand of social development。 Many linguists have paid their efforts to study English neologisms from different perspectives, among which the eco-linguistics offer us a brand new perspectives。 By analyzing the ecological elements of language, eco-linguists reveal the process of emergence, development and extinction of a language。 Language depends on its surroundings to remain vigorous while the surroundings help the springing of new words。 The thesis will elaborate on the production of English neologisms from the perspective of Eco-environment and probe into the interaction between these two pivot elements。93856

Just as the world is incessantly changing, so is language。 Languages are living things with words and expressions constantly coming and going, the same phenomenon can also be witnessed in the different ways we use to convey the same meaning。 In contemporary society, neologisms keep emerging in an endless stream。 Even for every single day in the English language, at least as many hundreds of or thousands of new words are born。 Language is changing all the time, our understandings of its surroundings will absolutely follow suit。 Therefore our previous storage of vocabulary is not sufficient enough to meet our uprising demands。 Every year, new words and meanings are invented while some of the original usages of relative words and expressions die out。 In recent years, more and more researchers are no longer content with simply studying language itself but turn their interests to explore its social nature and put emphasis on the social dimension of language。 So far, studies concerned mainly concentrate on the collection of daily and most frequent usages to study the formation and features。 What is more, universal consensus never exists about the definition of neologisms, the classification of which is also short of unified standard。 As we all know that there is never authentic standstill in language。 By nature it is a continuous process of ever changing and development, one of the founders of modern linguistics, explains the basic features of language。 He held that “All languages are dynamic rather than static…change is constant and normal。”(Bloomfield 87)
