1.3 The Methodology
When choosing a topic, I searched much information about the translation skills and modern translation theories, on the internet, and in the library. After carefully thinking about the importance and interest, availability of sources and the manageability, I decided to study the translation of culture-loaded words in Bian Cheng based on relevance theory. After, deciding the topic, I began to search for documents about culture-loaded words, relevance theory and different versions about Bian Cheng. Then I carefully studied their basic knowledge, concepts and so on. Again I returned to the internet and library to learn about the research status about the translation of culture-loaded words and the relevance. On the basis of former people’s research, I planned to do a further study.
I chose the versions by Jeffery C. Kinkley and Gladys Yang to carry on a comparative study on the translation of culture-loaded words under relevance theory. I carefully picked out those culture-loaded words in the original book Bian Cheng, then to find their translation in the two versions. Trying to making a comparison under relevance theory, I wanted to figure out their translation skills, and finally improved translation skills of culture-loaded words in Bian Cheng. At last to I draw a conclusion, about the translation skills for culture-loaded words under relevance theory guidance.
1.4 The Overall Structure
To carry on the study in a more systematic way, in chapter one, I will briefly introduce the significance, object and the structure of the thesis. In chapter two, I will introduce the literature review which including the current studies of culture-loaded words and relevance theory, the introduction of Bian Cheng and its author Shen Congwen and two translators Kinkley and Gladys Yang respectively. The study condition is also included in this part. In chapter three, relevance theory will be systematically introduced. In the fourth chapter, the core of the essay a comparative study of the two versions of the Bian Cheng will be carried on. In the fifth chapter, the conclusion of the thesis will be given. In the last part, it is the reference.
