III。 The Common Problems of The Attributive Clause
In the learning of attributive clause, students always make the two kind of mistakes below。
3。1 Improper Choice of Antecedent来:自[优E尔L论W文W网www.youerw.com +QQ752018766-
The attributive clause is introduced by relative pronouns or adverb and the modified noun or pronoun is regard as the antecedent。 For example:
(1) God helps those who help themselves。 In the sentence,”those” is the antecedent。
(2) I will not forget the boy who helped me a lot。 In the sentence, the word “boy” is the antecedent。
When learning the attributive clauses at first, some students are required to make one sentence from two,who are not usually sure which one is the antecedent。for example:
Do you know the boy? My sister is talking to him 。
If the two sentences are blended into one sentence, some think the antecedent is
the phrase “the boy”, others think it is the word。 “my sister”。 Once the improper antecedent is used, the attributive clause blended can be changed and ambiguous in meaning。
