Abstract Hero means a person, especially a man, who is admired by many people, or do something brave or good。 For thousands of years, the spirit of the ancient mythology has influenced the evaluation of the historical figures and the expectations of the real characters。 It has determined the content and purpose of the society to educate people and even influence the modern civilization since the 20th century。 This thesis takes the Chinese and American heroes Sun Wukong and Spider-Man as the object of study, analyses these two heroes from five aspects: the emotion, loyalty, inpidualism and collectivism, power distance and value to explore differences between Chinese and American culture。 Besides, it also discusses the causes of cultural differences。 94633

摘要英雄是文学分析与心理学里常用的概念。英雄是指由于做了勇敢杰出的事情而被大众崇拜的人。几千年来，古代神话的这种尚德精神影响着人们对历史人物的品评与现实人物的期望，决定着社会对人们进行教育的内容与目的，甚至也影响着20世纪以来现代文明的走向。本文以中美著名英雄人物孙悟空和蜘蛛侠为研究对象，从情感、忠诚、个人主义与集体主义、权力距离四方面进行对比分析，探讨中美文化不同,以及对文化不同的原因进行分析。

Since the early 1980s, Chinese society becomes more open。 The culture is not narrow anymore。 The Western culture is upsurge。 It desires to seek national development。 In order to explore the roads of Chinese modernization in the 1980s, many researchers study all elements of Chinese and western culture, and achieved fruitful results on this basis。 

Since the 1990s, the study of cultural differences between China and the west has been on the rise, the research based on different levels and different perspectives is deepening。 

In recent years, there are many papers about the Chinese and western cultural differences。 They are published one after another, lay foundations for studying cultural differences in a further step。 Cultures are invested with nations’s history and cultural information。 They are also related to traditional customs closely。 

Hero and heroine refer to characters, who in the face of danger and adversity or from a position of weakness, display courage and the will for self-sacrifice, that is, heroism- for some greater good of all humanity, originally of martial courage or excellent but extended to more general moral excellence。 (Xiao 3)
