摘要中国古典小说在英语世界的译介与研究，是一个成果迭出的领域。中国古典文学典范之一的《水浒传》是二十一世纪英语世界颇受重视的一部小说。《水浒传》的英译对中国古典文学在英语世界的传播与研究，以及跨文化交流的影响和贡献是不可低估的。33139
《水浒传》的英语译作数量不多。本文所做比较分析的是至今较权威的三个汉译英版本。其一是美国女作家赛珍珠(Pearl S. Buck)的70回英译本《All Men Are Brothers》；其二是英国杰克逊(J. H. Jackson)的70回英译本《Water Margin》；其三是沙博里(Sidney Shapiro)的百回全译本《Outlaws of the Marsh》，它被认为是目前最具权威，译文最为准确的版本。
本文将书中人物绰号分为性格类、传说类、特长类、外貌类、动物类、身份类优尔类，从翻译理论中的功能对等这一角度，对人物绰号翻译中的文化意象传递效果进行分析，发现由于不同国家之间的文化存在差异，国外译者对书中人物绰号的文化意象理解程度也不尽相同。本文旨在通过对比分析并结合功能对等理论四大原则，对不同译者的翻译风格以及人物绰号的文化意象有较为深刻的了解。

Title Transfer of Cultural Imagery in Translation of Nicknames in Shui Hu Zhuan——from the Perspective of Functional Equivalence Abstract
As one of four famous novels in China, English version of Shui Hu Zhuan plays an important role in spreading the history and culture of China. The translation of nicknames is a difficult problem all the time. According to the nicknames’ cultural connotation, they can be classified into 6 Category: personality, legend, speciality, appearance, animal and identity. This paper based on the translation theory of functional equivalence, analyzes the methods of imagery transfer in translation of nicknames in three different translation versions. It is found out that because of different cultural backgrounds, these three translators’ understandings to nicknames’ cultural imagery are not the same which makes their translation styles different. The aim of this paper is to have deeper comprehension on cultural imagery of nicknames by comparing and analyzing the translation of nicknames.
