1。3。1 Main research contents

This work needs to learn the great fires, casualties, economic losses, firefighting tools which used in the history of the British then combine with the statement and memories of the parties of the fires and study the development of the fire in different periods and the fire tools people used to deal with the fire。 This work covers the full span of steamer pumps’ application from its invention in 1829 to its phase-out in 1920s。 

This work needs to collect the great fires in the UK from 1800s to 1900s and make clear the characteristics of each fire, the pulsatility of climate and analyzing the impact of the climate on the spread of the fire。 This work also needs to classify the fires according to its climatic characteristics and explore the underlying laws behind it。 At the same time, I need to learn the cultivation of double cropping rice in the same period of China and analyzing the climate characteristics behind its failure, so that to support the current global climate characteristics。

This work needs me to understand the development history of the steamer pump, study the development of steamer pump and the degree of market acceptance and the relationship between fires and climate。 I need to study why the steamer pump did not receive the acceptance by the market at the beginning of the invention and analyzed the reasons including the rising labor cost, the firefighting management system, the concept of major fire chief, insufficient water supply, lack of scientific and technological theory, the characteristics of the fire caused by the climate, backward technology, incomplete supporting facilities and so on。

Finally, I have to analysis the heritage for the community and the firefighting culture, which is brought by the fire steamer pumps。

1。3。2 Main research methods

I am going to finish my paper through the Internet to collect information on the development of the British historical fires, climate changes, development of the steamer pump technology, thermodynamic theory and other aspects in the literature, combined with historical evidences to find why the steamer pump did not receive market acceptance in 1830s, and it was commercialized until 1860s, and finally what drove the steamer pump out of service in 1920s, as well as the historical heritage left by the steamer pumps。

This is a historical study on a specific firefighting tool。 I am using the literature survey to find suitable evidence for my main argument that the climate pulsation is the dominant factor behind the technical choice in firefighting history。 Climate change is the invisible hand behind the societal demand for better tools, with more efficiency and power。
